As Jupiter High’s bowlers entered the post-season, both the girls’ and boys’ teams were ranked first in the district. Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) bowling state competition was held in Orlando Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

During regular season, the girls’ team went 73-8, and the boys’ team went 77-4. Both teams faced some tough district competition this year.

When asked about the toughest opponents, girls’ team coach David Anderson said, “Suncoast by a very close second to Dwyer. They are our rivals, and when we play them, the fight is until the very end for each pin.”

Despite the fierce competition, Jupiter prevailed, and even broke some records along the way. The 2017 team shattered the 2006 records of a one-game series with a five person team of 1,220, a two-game series with a five person team of 2,290, and a three-game series with a five person team of 3,420.

“The biggest accomplishment of the team was when we set three county records at the district tournament,” boys’ senior team captain Thatcher Hart said.

This success set the team up for victory at states.

“The best part about states was seeing what a state championship looked like. The pressure was intense, but it was so much fun with such an amazing team,” freshman Gabriella Venanzi said.

Boys’ team coach Richard Emery agreed about the tough opponents, but explained that going to high school bowling states was a competitive way to end the season for both teams.

“The boys worked hard all year, and I wanted to see them rewarded for their hard work,” Emery said.

The boys finished fifth in the state and were led by bowler Danny Bostic.
