On Nov. 25, Alabama and Auburn faced off on the gridiron; the Crimson Tide fell to the Tigers 14-26. Auburn then advanced to the SEC Championship game where they were defeated by Georgia 28-7.

During the game against Alabama, Auburn’s quarterback Jarret Stidham passed for 237 yards and ran for a fourth-quarter touchdown. Running back Kerryon Johnson helped Stidham lead the Tigers to victory by executing a jump pass for a touchdown and running 30 times for 104 yards before he had exited the game in the fourth quarter due to an injury. Alabama had a series of uncharacteristic defensive errors ultimately resulting in the loss.

Alabama, previously undefeated and ranked number one, dropped to the fifth spot while Auburn, previously ranked number six, jumped to the number two spot.

On Dec. 12, Georgia secured the SEC title after previously getting blown away by Auburn 40-17 on Nov. 11. The Bulldogs rushed for 238 yards and Jake Fromm, Georgia’s freshman quarterback, completed 16 of 22 attempts for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Stidham kept his composure throughout the game, getting his team down field when he needed to, but the main struggle was their defense. Auburn took the early lead but after linebacker Davin Bellamy strip-sacked Stidham from behind, linebacker Roquan Smith recovered the fumble to kill the drive to take a two-score lead. The momentum of the game had swung to the Bulldogs; Fromm threw to Isaac Nauta for two yards to help tie the game at 7-7.
