Jupiter’s #9 Trevor Sousa celebrates his team’s 11-8 victory over Bishop Moore during the state championships at Boca Raton High School on May 12, 2018.

On May 12, the Warriors defeated Bishop Moore High School 11-8 at host school Boca Raton High School to become the first-ever public school to win the boy’s lacrosse state championship.

Top scorer, Denver Aranda, had five of the 11 goals. Benno Jansen scored three, along with Kenny Cronin who scored two and Chris Radice who scored one.

“We were up by four, but those kids weren’t letting up. They kept attacking and never gave up … We had to keep pushing through ‘til the end and come out with a victory, and that’s exactly what we did,” Jansen said.

The night before the state finals, the Warriors beat the Saint Andrews Scots in the state semi-finals with a score of 12-5.

Jupiter will be losing 17 seniors this year. Two of those seniors will be playing lacrosse collegiately. Kenny Cronin will attend the University of Maryland-Baltimore College, and Joey Bretz will go to University of Hartford up in Connecticut.

“I think we will be just as dominant … we still have a whole bunch of new kids flooding in that are very talented,“ junior Dylan Frankhouser said.

With the win, Palm Beach County swept the lacrosse state championships. On May 15, American Heritage-Delray beat Lake Highland Prep with a score of 10-7 to capture the girl’s lacrosse state title.
