COMPUTER SCIENCE HONOR SOCIETY NEWS Congratulations to Dylan Rankine, Haylee Zuba, Jean-Luc Abito, Brandon Embleton, Tor Andersen, Chase Wasalaski and Atharva Kerkar for making the Platinum tier (top 30%) in the CyberPatriot competition.  They are currently ranked 25th in the State of Florida.  They will compete in the CyberPatriot State competition on December 10th.  Good luck JHS Cyber Warriors! The CyberPatriot National Defense Competition puts high school teams in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems to find and fix cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services.  The top teams in the nation earn all-expenses-paid trips to Maryland for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.

JHS WORLD ETHICS CLUB is working with the Homeless Coalition again for a food drive. Please donate canned or other packaged foods especially baby food and canned meats and proteins to Miss Ellis’ room 4-118. IT’S SPIRIT WEEK! Today is Pajama Day, and hoped you liked the Hot Cocoa in the courtyard. Tomorrow is ugly sweater day, Wednesday is twin day, Thursday is class color day, and Friday is New Years Best, complete with a ball drop in the atrium.

THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK is Hallie Chojnacki. Hallie is a senior who participates in Girls Soccer and Flag Football. Hallie is an extremely hard worker on and off the field. Hallie holds a 4.0 GPA. She also participates in plenty of extracurricular activities. Thank you Hallie for representing what a Warrior is!

THE TEACHER OF THE WEEK is Mrs. Belcastro! She’s a super fun teacher who is always in a good mood and students love being in her class!

GIRLS BEACH VOLLEYBALL  There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, December 8 immediately after school in Mrs. Preston’s DECA Room 4-106. If you have any questions or cannot make the meeting, please reach out to Ms. Jalm via email if she is not in her office.

STUDENT ACES meet this Thursday during both lunches for our recruiting seminar.

THE CARSON SCHOLARS FUND awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Only one student from each school can be nominated, drop off a resume detailing your community service to Mrs. Woeber no later than Dec. 9th if you would like to be considered. Students must have a minimum 3.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale for current year report card. Students must display strong humanitarian qualities through community service above and beyond what is required in school.

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY This is a reminder to all members, you have until December 22nd to pay your dues. Information is on the google classroom. Please see Ms. K or President Calvin Brown with any questions.

CHILDHOOD CANCER SUPPORT CLUB Holiday Toy Drive for pediatric cancer patients. Please drop off your new, unwrapped toys to Mrs. Rodgers room 7-208 any time before December 10th.  Community service hours will be given for shopping and or helping us organize.  Please check out our flyer for exclusions. SOFTBALL Pre-season conditioning starts tomorrow, December 7th at 3:15 out at the softball field. Eligibility packets need to be completed and turned in to Coach Ahern in Portable 3. If you have any questions about trying out for softball come by Portable 3 as well.

BLOOD DRIVE SIGN UPS are happening all this week! You can sign up in the courtyard at either lunch or come to Miss Ellis’ Room 4-118. As long as you’re 16 or older you can donate! You’ll get a free holiday blanket, snacks, community service, and MOST IMPORTANTLY you’ll be saving lives. The actual drive is on Tuesday, December 14th. Looking forward to seeing you sign up!

ASTRONOMERS There will be a star party on Dec. 14th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Daniel’s Way parking lot… weather permitting.  

DECA is holding a fundraiser for families in need. They are collecting non-perishable canned goods and community service hours will be awarded for the time spent collecting your items. There are bins for drop off in front of the office, in the school store, or in room 4-106. Donations will be accepted up until winter break.

THE RONALD MCDONALD CLUB is hosting a pull tab holiday contest drive in first period classes. You can get them from soda or any other cans. This club’s mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. You can drop off the pull tabs from your first period class in room 4-116. They need to be washed, bagged and labeled with the number of tabs inside. Please have your first period teacher’s name and room number labeled on the submissions. The class that collects the most pull tabs will get baked goods. Start collecting now! Turn in your pull tabs by January 6, 2022.

NHS is collecting new, unwrapped toys through December 12.  Toys for children 10+ are highly needed, but toys for all ages are appreciated.  No realistic-looking weapons or food, please. Earn 2 community service hours and make a huge impact on the children in this county. The drop-off box is in front of the school or you can bring it to Mrs. Sparks’ room 1-155.
