CONGRATULATIONS MRS. SAUNDERS A FINALIST FOR THE DISTRICT ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR! Mrs. Saunders has a proven record of accomplishment in providing exemplary contributions to our school and community. The District’s “Celebrate the Great” event will take place on January 25, 2022 at the South Florida Science Center. The winners in each category will be announced at that time. Congratulations Mrs. Saunders!

 

HEALTH HERO FLORIDA will be on campus Thursday Dec 16th to administer vaccines to faculty and students who have submitted consent forms to Student Services no later than Wednesday Dec 8th. Please make sure the first period teacher’s name is on top of each form.

 

TEACHERS VS. STUDENT KICKBALL GAME Great time had by all!  Big thanks goes out to SGA for organizing the game! Congratulations to the students who won 13-6 against the teachers. MVPs recognized on Friday were Ryan Senecal, Quin Fitzgerald, and Mr. Hammett. Everyone put out a great team effort, and the crowd was spectacular.

 

JHS ARMY JROTC Cadets Jakob Strunk and Pierce Bradley earned the coveted Norwegian Foot March Badge (an Active Duty Award) for completing a 30 km (18.6 mi.) march/run while wearing a rucksack weighing 11.3 kg (25 lbs.) Hooah!

 

INKWELL MAGAZINE would like to congratulate our very own Assistant Editor in Chief, Raelyn Mauge on being one of 4 secondary prizewinners in The Maybelline #BraveTogether Write-a-thon. Her letter has been published on Wattpad.com and is a profound testament to strength and optimism in the face of adversity. Well done Rae! We are so proud of all you have accomplished so far and look forward to supporting you through all the fabulous things you have yet to achieve!

 

SEMESTER EXAM REMINDERS Exams start Friday, Dec. 17 with Period 1&2 Exams and a full day of school, Monday and Tuesday is a half day with 2 exams each, and Wed., Dec. 22 is Period 7 exam only. Students wishing to leave following the conclusion of the 7th hour testing block on Wednesday, Dec. 22 will need to have an approved Early Release Form in order to exit campus. Forms must be completed in advance and submitted to Student Services by the end of the day on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021. All forms will need to be verified ahead of time with a parent phone call. Verified forms will be returned to 7th period teachers by Wednesday morning for distribution to students.

 

JHS WORLD ETHICS CLUB is working with the Homeless Coalition again for a food drive. Please donate canned or other packaged foods especially baby food and canned meats and proteins to Miss Ellis’ room 4-118. SPIRIT WEEK! Today is ugly sweater day, Wednesday is twin day, Thursday is class color day for the Pep Rally, and Friday is New Year’s Best, complete with a ball drop in the atrium. 

 

DON’T MISS OUT on the second Pep Rally of the year this Thursday 12/9!  There will be exciting games and activities that you won’t want to miss. ATTENTION SENIORS Still need your senior shirt for the pep rally. Senior shirt distribution will take place Wednesday and Thursday morning in the atrium. GIRLS BEACH VOLLEYBALL There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, December 8 immediately after school in Mrs. Preston’s DECA Room 4-106. If you have any questions or cannot make the meeting, please reach out to Ms. Jalm via email if she is not in her office.

BOYS WEIGHTLIFTING If you are interested in joining the Boy’s weightlifting team come to the meeting at 3:00 in front of the weightroom on Thursday, December 9th.

 

THE CARSON SCHOLARS FUND awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Only one student from each school can be nominated, drop off a resume detailing your community service to Mrs. Woeber no later than Dec. 9th if you would like to be considered. Students must have a minimum 3.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale for current year report card. Students must display strong humanitarian qualities through community service above and beyond what is required in school.

 

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY This is a reminder to all members, you have until December 22nd to pay your dues. Information is on the google classroom. Please see Ms. K or President Calvin Brown with any questions.

 

CHILDHOOD CANCER SUPPORT CLUB Holiday Toy Drive for pediatric cancer patients. Please drop off your new, unwrapped toys to Mrs. Rodgers room 7-208 any time before December 10th.  Community service hours will be given for shopping and or helping us organize.  Please check out our flyer for exclusions. Thank you so much for contributing!

 

SOFTBALL Pre-season conditioning starts today, December 7th at 3:15 out at the softball field. Eligibility packets need to be completed and turned in to Coach Ahern in Portable 3. If you have any questions about trying out for softball come by Portable 3 as well.

 

BLOOD DRIVE SIGN UPS are happening all this week! You can sign up in the courtyard at either lunch or come to Miss Ellis’ Room 4-118. As long as you’re 16 or older you can donate! You’ll get a free holiday blanket, snacks, community service, and MOST IMPORTANTLY you’ll be saving lives. The actual drive is on Tuesday, December 14th. Looking forward to seeing you sign up!

 

ASTRONOMERS There will be a star party on Dec. 14th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Daniel’s Way parking lot… weather permitting.  

 

DECA is holding a fundraiser for families in need. They are collecting non-perishable canned goods and community service hours will be awarded for the time spent collecting your items. There are bins for drop off in front of the office, in the school store, or in room 4-106. Donations will be accepted up until winter break.

 

NHS MEMBERS Please remember that you must participate in ONE community service activity before the winter break. The only activity left is the toy drive. Failure to complete a service will result in removal from the Honor Society. See Ms. Sparks in room 1-155 during periods 1-6 and both lunches.

 

TUTORING Get extra help with any of your classes or homework assignments by attending our ESOL tutoring offered every day after school in the media center from 2:45-4:45 pm.  Snacks will be provided and anyone who attends will be entered into a drawing for great prizes. Come check it out!
