Jupiter High’s softball team has entered their 2024 season starting off strong with a record of nine wins and four losses.
The team are currently third in the district, with the girls collectively working to improve their plays and maintain their success.
“We have been working on communication when we are on the field, improving on hitting and being more aggressive at the plate,” Abbigail White, sophomore outfielder, said.
Along with improving on the field, the team has worked together to strengthen their relationship with one another.
“We have been working on communication on the field and working together as a team,” Sam Basen, sophomore third baseman, said. “We are trying to improve individually and our team skills everyday during practice so we can become the best version of ourselves.”
The players also enjoy the bonds they create by playing together as a team.
“I have fun playing with the people that have the same goal and work ethic as me and they help me grow as an individual to push me to become the best I can possibly be,” Basen said.
The team’s first game resulted in a 12-2 loss for Jupiter against Seminole Ridge High School, encouraging them to work more intensely for the rest of the season.
“If we keep working hard we can have a good game for the district championship,” Sienna Rodriguez, sophomore left fielder, said.
The team faced a loss last year in the district playoffs, abruptly ending the 2023 season. This year, the girls have hopes of making it to the playoffs and taking home the district title.
“We were bummed that we lost last year in districts, but we want to beat that this year,” Basen said.
In their most recent game, the girls took home a 2-1 win over South Fork High School, leading them to their next game on Apr. 16.
“This season has been a competitive one. We have a winning record so I’m excited to see how we continue this season. We’ve learned a lot from our losses and are growing as a team physically and mentally,” White said.
With five games left in the season, the team is ready to see the outcomes of districts.
“We have a winning record, so I’m excited to see how we continue this season and I’m looking forward to having a strong finish to the season,” White said.
