Fall is here, bringing with it the iconic pumpkin drinks that are one of the most beloved parts of the season. Starbucks debuted the Pumpkin Spice Latte in 2003 and the popular drink has remained very relevant as a key aspect of the autumn season.
Keeping the fall vibes going all season long can cost consumers tons of money. The top three grande sized pumpkin drinks on the Starbucks menu range from $5.45 -$6.25 each. Not only are the drinks pricey, they each contain a lot of sugar which can be bad for you over time. Each pumpkin drink varies from 31-66 grams of sugar per grande drink.
But there are solutions to combating excess prices and sugar. These copycats cost less money, make more servings and have less sugar.
Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Spiced chai, sweet pumpkin cold foam and a creamy pumpkin mixture is a comforting cozy fall morning treat sure to set you up for a delicious day.
Cooking Instructions:
First, start by making the pumpkin cream cold foam by mixing ¾ cup of 2% milk (or substitute milk), ¼ cup heavy cream, 2 tsp vanilla syrup (or substitute with 1 tsp vanilla extract) and 2 ½ tbsp pumpkin spice sauce in a mason jar. Using an airtight container, set it aside in the fridge until closer to use. There should be enough pumpkin cream cold foam for three drinks.
If you do not have a store-bought pumpkin pie sauce, here is how you can make one. Put a medium saucepan over medium heat and pour in 1 cup pumpkin puree, one 13 oz can of fat-free sweetened condensed milk (use regular if you can not find fat-free), 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice and ¼ tsp salt. Stir together for 5 minutes until bubbles begin to form. Remove pan from heat and stir 1 tsp vanilla extract in. Pour sauce into a heat-proof jar or bowl and place into the fridge to cool before using pumpkin cream cold foam.
Turn the pumpkin cream mixture into cold foam right before usage. Turn into sweet cream by frothing with a frother, mixing with a hand mixer or blending with a blender until foamy. Another way is by shaking the mixture in a mason jar until it’s frothy.
Add 3 ounces of chai tea concentrate to an ice-filled glass. Then, add 4 ounces of 2% milk (or a substitute milk). Top the drink with a pumpkin cream cold foam and then sprinkle pumpkin pie spice over the top.
