Cora Boschen, Kinley Daly, June Okada, Madison Thomas, Lorelei Riedesel, Landon Shwartz and Marisol Tijerina were recently elected to be Jupiter High School’s freshman class officers for the 2024-2025 school year.
They’ve been serving in their positions for almost a month and have participated in events including the homecoming carnival. However, much of the information that the freshmen know about them is solely based on the elections.
“Many freshmen probably are unaware of the class office,” Janina Jeffs, 2028 Class Sponsor, said. “High school is a new environment with so many different activities and programs, it really is a lot to keep up with.”
The officers work towards planning events for their class, encouraging involvement from the students.
“I think that it’s very important to participate in school events, they are a big part of our high school experience,” Cora Boschen, freshman class president said. “It is important for freshmen to care about and to be aware of what goes on within the class office.”
Taking part in class events as well as learning who the officers are and what they do is extremely important and can be incredibly useful to students.
“I want to make sure that we don’t seem like random people,” Boschen said. “I want to make sure that you know us.”
Having officers for every grade allows for specific and necessary attention to be given to each student body.
“My job is going to be making sure that any ideas and opinions from people in the Class of 2028 get out, and [students] actually have their voice heard,” Boschen said.
Including voting and coming to school events, there are many ways to participate and get involved.
“Freshmen may join our Google Classroom and follow us on Instagram,” Jeffs said.
The google classroom code is maewqxy. This is one of the many ways students can easily get their opinions voiced.
“I would like to show creativity through students by getting ideas from students themselves,” Landon Schwarz, freshman social media manager, said.
Schwarz’s job is to manage the class office’s social media page. His goal is incorporating forms where students can input their opinions.
“It’s good to get everybody’s opinion on stuff, even if they don’t really care, they can still show what they would like more than other things,” Schwarz said.
When students involve themselves in events, keep up with the news and participate, it results in a school that accurately represents the student body and provides opportunities that are wanted.
“As an officer, I ensure that the 9th grade population is doing activities, and promoting things that everyone is happy about,” Madison Thomas, freshman treasurer, said.
Many of the officers are working towards the common goal of representing the class of 2028 well and keeping a good atmosphere for them at school.
“I wanted to see a more positive environment, and make a difference in the school and help out the community,” Marisol Tijerina, freshman fundraising manager, said.
Even with the campaign videos featured on the morning announcements and posters displayed in the cafeteria, only around 40% of the freshmen class participated in the voting process.
“I think it helps [freshmen] feel more connected to the school,” Anderson Stroever, freshman, said.
Participation in things such as voting can help freshmen involve themselves more with what is occurring in school. It’s critical to vote and be a part of the class of 2028 because the turnout will directly influence who is managing 9th grade for the whole year.
“I’m going to continue to run every year because this is something I’m passionate about. I am dedicated to this, and I am going to do everything I can to make it memorable for everyone,” Boschen said.
