The 67th annual Grammys award show took place on Feb. 2, 2025, honoring artists from all over the world for their outstanding achievements in the music industry.
Held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the event was attended by a multitude of music industry professionals, celebrities and fans.
This year’s ceremony was notable for its diverse range of winners and performances.
The Recording Academy contains 13,000 members, awarding artists from a variety of different musical categories/genres, based solely on the quality of the music they’ve made in the past year.
This year, 94 awards were given at the Grammys. The most important titles include Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Album of the Year.
The award for Album of the Year was presented to critically acclaimed artist, Beyonce, for her eighth studio album “Cowboy Carter.”
Though many fans were happy for this win, the situation did attract some controversy.
“In my opinion, Beyonce didn’t deserve album of the year,” Oliver Clanton, freshman, said. “I believe Billie Eilish deserved to win at least one award.”
The Song of the Year category saw a competitive lineup between “Birds of a Feather,” Billie Eilish; “Please, Please, Please,” Sabrina Carpenter; “Die With a Smile,” Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars; “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” Shaboozey; “Texas Hold Em,” Beyonce, “HOT TO GO,” Chappell Roan; and “Fortnight,” Taylor Swift; ultimately awarded to a track that shocked the internet in 2024; “Not Like Us,” by Kendrick Lamar.
Record of the Year, often confused with Song of the Year, due to the fact that the terms are used interchangeably, was also awarded to “Not Like Us,” by Kendrick Lamar.
Record of the year honors the performing artist, while song of the year awards the songwriter.
The award for Best New Artist was given to Chappell Roan; this being her first Grammy. Within just a year, Roan had several hit songs, from her song “Casual,” released in 2023, to “Good Luck Babe,” released in 2024.
One of the highlights of the evening was the performance by Sabrina Carpenter, who set the tone for the night with an electrifying rendition of “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please.”
Carpenter strutted down the red carpet wearing a blue satin JW Anderson dress, only to change outfits several times throughout the night. Carpenter walked down a white staircase wearing a glittery suit and tie and then pulled off the suit to reveal another one of her signature bejeweled corsets.
Carpenter performed on a detailed, blue lighted set, designed to look like a house in order to fit her album theme and style of the 50’s. Carpenter performed two of her most popular songs, both featured on her grammy nominated album; ¨Short and Sweet.¨
This event also featured memorable performances from some of the industry’s biggest names, such as Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Chappell Roan, all of which were nominated for at least one Grammy.
The 67th Grammys Award show was a night to remember, filled with unforgettable performances, heartfelt speeches and well deserved recognitions. From the stunning red carpet looks to the heartfelt speeches, this event truly celebrated the best of music.
