Meet the Athlete: Ricky Clark
Ricky Clark, senior captain of the Jupiter High baseball team, has been a key player for the Warriors this season. With a hot bat and solid defense, the Wingate University commit is leading the team on their road to the state final.
Clark started playing baseball at the age of four and never looked back. Coming from a close-knit family, Clark credits his father and brothers for pushing him to excel in the sport.
“My dad always loved watching me play the game, and I’m just trying to make him proud at all times,” Clark said. “My brothers also excelled and left their legacies at Jupiter High with their respective sports, so I’m trying to make them proud as well.”
Clark has been clutch at the plate this season. He went 3-4 in their win against district rival Palm Beach Gardens on Wednesday, March 28. He also led the team to victory with a bottom of the ninth, walk-off, two-run homerun against Dwyer on Tuesday, March 6.
“When I hit the walk-off, it was such an electric feeling…It was almost like I needed to pinch myself to see if it was real,” Clark said.
“Rick is a kid that will always put a smile on your face whether you are down by 10 or up by 20. He never quits, and I know he will excel in college and whatever his life has in plan for him,” junior teammate Jake Garland said.
Clark is a leader not only on the field but also in the classroom, sporting a 3.8 grade point average. He is set to begin his academic and college baseball career at Wingate University in the fall.
