Varsity girls soccer wins first two games of the season
Girls’ varsity soccer started their season with two wins, one against Jensen Beach on Nov. 4 by a score of 2-0 and another against Martin County on Nov. 6 by a score of 4-1.
Senior Bella Benavente scored twice, once on a free kick and then on a cross from senior Cassandra Deka.
“We came out and played really well the first two games. I’m very excited to have started off the season on the right foot and I’m excited for what the rest of the season has to bring,” Benavente said.
After the new coach quit unexpectedly before tryouts, the new Athletic Director Kimberly Jalm took over as the varsity girls’ soccer coach.
“The coach we hired a couple months ago decided to pursue other opportunities the day of tryouts, after speaking with Dr. Iannitti, we wanted the team to have someone who would be committed to them for the entire season. Because it was so last minute, I decided it was in the best interest of the girls for me to step into that role for them. While I may not have the soccer knowledge that most coaches have, I have a lot of experience,” Jalm said.
While the team has an experienced soccer coach, the talent and enthusiasm of the players helped the Lady Warriors win their first two pre-season games.
“We won our first 2 preseason games while playing all 22 players. Not many teams can say that. Girls were playing out of position, but adapted and persevered. I think it gave us a glimpse of what we are capable of achieving this season,” Jalm said.
