((OCEANA))

From September 15th to October 15th, it’s National Hispanic Heritage Month.  National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States.  Each day, we will share an important figure within the community to you.  Today we celebrate Juan Ponce de Leon.  Juan Ponce de León was a Spanish explorer. In 1508 to 1509, he explored and settled Puerto Rico, founding the colony’s oldest settlement, Caparra, near what is now San Juan. He is also credited with being the first European to reach Florida in 1513.

AP Spanish students will sell handmade bracelets for $7 from now until October 3rd in both lunches. We also have a limited number handwoven bags, or bolsitas, for $15. All items come with a tag that is signed by the artisan with a photo or information of where it was made. 100% of the proceeds are given back to the charity to directly benefit those workers. Help us to support these workers in Guatemala and Nicaragua!

Listen up juniors and seniors!  We will have many College visits set up where you have the opportunity to get firsthand information from the college of your choice.  If you are interested in any of the Colleges/Universities below please sign up for the visit in the guidance office.  You will need a pass to attend the visit.

And if you need college application help, from September 26th through October 26th, stop by the guidance office during both lunches and don’t forget to bring your chromebook.  Your guidance counselors can help.

If college is not your thing, there’s always the military.  Last Thursday, United States Marine, Major Gregory Mateo, a graduate of the Naval Academy, came to Jupiter High School to speak to the JROTC cadets about different options available for seniors.
