Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States.

((JAYDEN))

All this month we will be featuring members of the African-American and Afro-Latino communities, showcasing their achievements and accomplishments.  Today we celebrate Oscar Micheaux.  Oscar Micheaux, born in 1884, was a filmmaker who released “The Homesteader” based on his life at the height of Jim Crow.  He produced more than forty-four films.  The black characters in his films were not limited to stereotypical roles, and the plotlines of his films even dove into topics involving racial injustice suffered by Black Americans.
