Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States.

((HARPER))

All this month we will be featuring members of the African-American and Afro-Latino communities, showcasing their achievements and accomplishments.  Today we celebrate Afro-Latina Sylvia del Villard.  Sylvia del Villard was an activist, dancer, choreographer, and actress.  At the College of New York, she joined the dancing and singing troupe Africa House.  In 1968, she founded the Teatro Afro-Boricua El Coqui company.
