Jupiter High’s girls tennis team defeated Wellington High School 6-0 on Apr. 16, claiming the 4A-11 district title.

“All of the girls played against Wellington in all lines for both singles and doubles,” Gabriella Michels, senior, said. “Our lines 1-3 singles won finals and our 1 and 2 doubles won as well.”

Throughout this season, the team believed Wellington to be their biggest competitor.

“Wellington had beat us when we played against them at their home match, but we beat them when they came to play against us here,” Michels said. “Going into districts we expected anything to happen.”

The team started the season off strong with a win on Feb. 7, defeating Palm Beach Gardens High School 7-0. Throughout this season, the team has continued their routine training, leading to a record of 16 wins and one loss.

“We do a bit of conditioning as a team, work on footwork and play practice matches in preparation for the upcoming matches,” Michels said.

In the girls most recent match, the team moved on to the Regional Semifinals where they won 4-0 against Spanish River.

“Winning has helped us all get closer. Going through such exciting moments with amazing people strengthens your memories and teamwork together,” Andraya Millon, senior, said

The team has worked to build a strong relationship with one another.

“The team’s relationship is very close. We make sure to do team bonding activities to keep up our relationships and communication with each other,” Millon said.

The team is currently ranked second in the district following their loss to Wellington in Regional Finals. Gianna Panaggio, senior, will compete at states for singles and doubles, alongside Siany Panaggio, freshman, who’s competing for doubles.
