Homecoming, an exciting event that takes place every school year, is coming to Jupiter on Oct. 26 from 7-10 p.m.
Homecoming festivities begin with spirit week. Starting off the week is class color day, followed by tacky tourist day, soccer mom vs BBQ dad day, anything but a backpack day and generation day. The Homecoming pep rally will take place on Monday, Oct. 21 with wristbands distribution starting on Oct. 16 and ending on Oct. 18, in the Student Government Association (SGA) courtyard.
“It was really stressful,” Madison Johnson, senior and Spirit Chair of SGA, said. “A lot of stuff goes into it [the pep rally]. Emailing coaches, getting names, a lot of specifics. But overall, it is going to be a really great one.”
This year’s homecoming theme is “A Night in Rio,” a Brazilian carnival theme consisting of colorful clothing and glamor.
“I think people just really wanted to see something bright and fun and different. I think we are really hitting that nail on the head this year,” Johnson said.
The work that goes into a successful homecoming starts before the theme is even decided.
“Before the homecoming theme is even announced, SGA works to get all of the paperwork done and get the date finalized with the football team to figure out the logistics of it. When the theme is announced, we begin preparing the decorations,” Reese Mitchell, senior and President of SGA, said.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, SGA, who is in charge of organizing and managing homecoming, was faced with the challenge of planning an outdoor homecoming dance.
“Homecoming isn’t changing a lot from past years, but it definitely has shifted since COVID. We had an outdoor homecoming dance a few years ago, which was very different than what we’re doing now,” Mitchell said. “But I would say we’re pretty much getting back to our normal scheme of things.”
SGA will only be selling 1200-1300 dance tickets which tend to sell out quickly.
“Tickets are usually first come first serve, because we sell out so quickly,” Mitchell said. “Since it is in our own school, we have to have a cap on how many students we can have.”
Homecoming contracts will be available during both lunches starting Sep. 30. Students are required to have a filled out contract to reserve a ticket. Tickets can be bought via School Cash Online only, starting Oct. 7 for seniors, Oct. 10 for underclassmen and Oct. 16 for guests. Students that are planning on attending homecoming are advised to plan on buying tickets early.
The homecoming carnival will take place on Oct. 25, from 4:30-6 p.m. and will feature booths from many clubs on campus.
“Getting the connections with all of the clubs has helped boost the carnival. Getting exposure for those clubs, whether they want to start a fundraiser, raise money or run a carnival game, it definitely helps get more people signed up and involved,” Taylor Gale, Vice President of SGA, said.
The 2024-25 homecoming season is expected to be bigger and better than any previously held at Jupiter High.
“I am very excited for the homecoming season this year. We have a lot of exciting things coming up,” Johnson said.
