“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” is the movie adaptation of the video game Five Nights at Freddy’s.The movie released on Dec. 5, 2025 as a sequel to “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and showed great success at the box office, making over $60 million on opening weekend.
The highly anticipated movie captivated an audience of both those who enjoy the games and those who enjoy horror movies.
“I went to see the movie because I’m a big fan of Five Nights at Freddy’s and played it a lot when I was younger,” Carlos Avendano, sophomore, said.
The film takes place one year after the first movie and mainly follows Abby Schmidt, (played by Piper Rubio), Mike Schmidt, (played by Josh Hutcherson) and Vanessa Shelly, (played by Elizabeth Lail) as they try to stop the animatronics. Outside the pizzeria, Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica, Mangle and the Marionette run loose after Abby unknowingly disabled a safety feature meant to stop the animatronics from leaving.
“I liked the animatronics and I thought the designs were cool, but I didn’t like some of the characters in the movie,” Christian Buigas, freshman, said.
Throughout the movie, the main group of animatronics, known as the “toy animatronics,” run rampant outside of the pizzeria while under the control of the Marionette.
During this, Mike goes to the original pizzeria in order to reactivate the safety feature to stop the animatronics. However, a group of prototype animatronics built for what would become Freddy’s Pizzeria from the first film attempt to stop Mike from reactivating the feature in a scene replicating what happens in the game.
“I thought they did the animatronics really well and they made them look amazing and I loved the scene where Mike reenacts what happens in the game,” Avendano said.
The movie ends with Michael Afton, Vanessa’s brother, ordering the toy animatronics to attack Abby, Mike and Vanessa when the animatronics from the first movie show up to fight the toy animatronics. This leads to the spirits of the original group being set free, along with Mike telling Vanessa to stay away from him and Abby.
“I honestly didn’t like the ending too much. It felt rushed and it was sort of all over the place,” Buigas said.
While “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” was mostly enjoyed by fans of the games and watchers of the first movie, some were left disappointed with choices made in the movie, finding it unorganized and confusing at points. Still, many are hopeful that plot holes will be filled in the third movie which was teased in a post credit scene showing the main antagonist from the third game, Springtrap.“I would definitely come back for a third one. I think the third game is unique compared to the others and would make a great movie,” Avendano said.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” is a very enjoyable film that manages to be light hearted while still being a horror film. The charm of the animatronics and the sometimes chaotic scenes make the movie fun for everyone.
