On Oct. 10, Jupiter High Assistant Principal Katie Chrissinger transferred to sister school across the street, Jupiter Elementary. Replacing her was Diana Fernandez, who now oversees last names beginning with letters O-R.

“It is an awesome experience, and I am very lucky to be a part of the Warrior tribe,” said Fernandez. “This will be my fourth year as an AP.”

Fernandez most recently moved from Ramrod Key in the Fla. Keys where she was an Assistant Principal at Key West High School. She also worked at Jupiter Elementary before joining the Jupiter High family.

One of Fernandez’s many duties is helping students in the ESOL (English as a Second Language) program here at Jupiter High. She speaks Spanish fluently, so she’s an asset to the program.

Transitioning from elementary school to high school was a change, but she welcomed the opportunities to work with young adults.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say it is more difficult [in high school]. I believe that every age group has its own set of challenges but also rewards,” said Fernandez. “I love the fact that I am able to have great conversations with students that are old enough to reason. High school years are one of the most fun.”

As Fernandez greets you with a smile, she is looking forward to creating relationships with the Warrior staff and students.

“The biggest challenge is trying to learn everyone’s names and locations. It is important for me to establish relationships with people and that only happens with time and trust,” Fernandez said.
