SGA puts on pep rally for winter sports
Jupiter High’s Student Government Association held a pep rally for winter sports on Jan. 18 in the school’s gymnasium.
This pep rally highlighted weightlifting, water polo, wrestling, soccer and basketball. Seated at the front of the gym, boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were the guests of honor. Performances included the sideline cheerleading team, varsity cheerleading team and dance team.
“It was really nice to be recognized for our hard work this season. I hope the school continues to celebrate sports that aren’t football or other fall sports,” junior soccer player Abbie Duttenhofer said.
Along with class competitions, like a huge tic-tac-toe game, the soccer and basketball programs competed in a spin on beach volleyball
“It was really fun to do something with the girls’ team, since we don’t do stuff as a ‘basketball program’ together that often,” senior basketball player Josh Williams said.
The state champion varsity cheerleading team performed their most difficult routine yet. The team practiced during most of winter break to prepare for their state championship at University of Florida on Jan. 31.
“Our cheer team is really good and work really hard for their titles. They totally deserve it and I’m super proud of them and everything they have achieved,” junior Dance Team member Sierra Witchey said.
The Warrior Dance Team performed a routine to the songs “I’m out” by Ciara and “Bend Ova” by Lil John featuring Tyga. The crowd was excited to see the dance brought out of retirement; it was performed at the Homecoming pep rally in 2016.
“The Dance Team is always so powerful and clean. They really are great performers,” Global Perspectives teacher Michael DeLeonardo said after the pep rally.
