Axe throwing has become an increasingly popular activity in recent years. Locally, an axe-throwing location, Game of Axes, has been open since 2018 in Jupiter Farms. 

While axe throwing can be very competitive, Game of Axes is able to make the activity fun, whether you are going with friends or family. The axe masters will train you on how to properly throw the axe before you start your game. 

“The [axe masters] were helpful and I feel that they made it much easier for me to throw the axe and make sure it doesn’t bounce back at me,” Savannah Bates, junior, said. 

Throwing the axe properly can take some practice before you start hitting the target continuously and scoring points. Sometimes you may hit the target wrong and the axe can bounce back at you, or it won’t stick to the target. 

 “Some of the boards were very worn which made it hard for the axe to stick,” Morgan McGee said. 

Don’t worry if you make repetitive mistakes though.  You are assigned a lane and an axe master that will help you throughout your game. If they see you struggling they can come over and assist you, whether that be giving you some pointers on your form and advising you to hold the axe differently. 

“I like the fact that they teach you how to throw an axe and if you’re doing it improperly,” Zach Javor, JHS alumni, said. “They will show you how to properly do it and make sure that you know what you’re doing.” 

You have more than enough room when throwing. Depending on the size of your party you can get one or two lanes. Each lane has two targets so you are able to throw side by side. 

“I like the lanes: they were spacious as well as the fact that you can bring in your own food,” McGee said. 

Many people will bring in pizza from Jupiter Farms pizza or Angelos Too while playing. They do sell some snacks, however, they mostly sell refreshments, including alcoholic beverages. There is a slightly western theme inside, with wood furnishings and cowbells. 

“The atmosphere is very cool and I like how it’s kind of dark in there,” Bates said. 

Despite the good lighting allowing you to see the target, you will want to wear closed-toed shoes, as there can be wood shavings and splinters on the ground underneath the board. 

“I would recommend wearing clothes you can move in,” McGee said. 

Overall Game of Axes receives high ratings from those who attend. It is a great activity for a group of friends looking for a fun night. 

“I would definitely go back because it was a perfect place to bring friends and have a fun night,” McGee said.
