Eagles to play Chiefs Sunday in Super Bowl LVII

The 2022-23 NFL playoffs come to an end as the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs face off in the Super Bowl on Feb. 12.

John Day, teacher at Jupiter High, grew up in Missouri and is happy to see his favorite team make it back to the Super Bowl.

“I am excited and looking forward to [the Chiefs] beating the Eagles,” Day said. “I think the Chiefs have a great all around offense and defense. Their wide receivers, their tight ends, and their quarterback are going to be unstoppable.”

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City’s quarterback, made his fifth straight start in the AFC Championship game. He is the first player in history to do so before the age of 30.

“Mahomes is putting up Tom Brady type stats. He is the best quarterback in the league and he is going to win the MVP,” William Owens, junior, said.

The Eagles make their second Super Bowl appearance in five years after defeating the Patriots in 2018.

“Everyone predicted that we weren’t going to do that well this year. We are a new team with new weapons and a new head coach. Jalen Hurts has come a long way from being benched in the national championship as well,” Owens said.

They advance after beating the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game by 24 points.

“Our biggest problem was at the quarterback position, where we have been very understaffed,” Jake Finnegan, sophomore 49ers fan, said. “[Brock] Purdy took a swat to the shoulder which caused his elbow to hurt. Then we had to put our fourth string in and he’s no good.”

Purdy, the 49ers third string quarterback, had a fantastic year after getting drafted with the very last pick.

“Purdy was the last overall pick in last year’s draft. He went from being Mr. Irrelevant to relevant in just a few games,” Finnegan said.

Luke Fykes, sophomore, believes the Chiefs will come out with the victory.

“In the end, the Eagles aren’t really battle tested and they haven’t seen a quarterback like Mahomes,” Fykes said. “They have a dynamic duo with Kelce and [Mahomes]. I think the Chiefs win it all but the Eagles make it close.”
