Donald Trump, 47th President of the U.S., took the stand on Feb. 24, 2026, to deliver his State of the Union address.
This speech was notable for its extensive length, spanning a total of one hour and 48 minutes. This prolonged speech superseded the previous record set by former President Bill Clinton in 2000, whose speech lasted approximately 1 hour and 28 minutes.
President Trump covered several crucial topics in his speech, making claims ranging from illegal immigration to affordability. Many statements made by President Trump were later fact checked by news outlets.
“In my first ten months, I ended eight wars.” These wars in question, as stated by the White House, were ones between Israel and Hamas, Pakistan and India, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Egypt and Ethiopia and Serbia and Kosovo.
Many argue that a number of these wars only lasted a few days, or weren’t really wars at all, as no actual fighting was involved; one example being the said war between Ethiopia and Egypt, which was really just a dispute over the building of a dam.
“Gasoline is now below $2.30 a gallon in most states and in some places $1.99 a gallon,” Trump said.
However, according to the Automobile associate, (AAA,) gas in the U.S. is averaged at an overall of $2.95 per gallon. On the date that this speech took place. Feb. 24, the lowest gas prices were found to be in Louisiana, priced at $2.37 per gallon. On March 6, however, the average gas price in Louisiana rose to $2.959 per gallon.
Also as of March 6, the state with the lowest gas prices is now Kansas, where average gas prices sit at $2.869 per gallon, up significantly from $2.30.
Trump then went on to discuss the integrity of past presidential elections, making references to his loss in the 2020 election. “They want to cheat. They have cheated, and their policy is so bad that the only way they can get elected is to cheat,” President Trump said of Democrats. “And we’re going to stop it. We have to stop it.”
President Trump awarded the US men’s hockey team with the ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom,’ following their recent win at the Winter Olympics. “What special champions you are,” Trump said.
While a majority of the team members accepted their invite to the White House, five did not show up, causing speculation on social media among all sides.
President Trump addressed threats of Iran, outlining his thinking behind launching a major military strike in Iran. “My preference is to solve this problem through diplomacy. But one thing is certain, I will never allow the world’s number one sponsor of terror, which they are, by far, to have a nuclear weapon,” President Trump said in response to a discussion regarding Iran trying to rebuild its nuclear program. “Can’t let that happen.”
