Taco Maki located in Downtown Abacoa (1155 Main St,) is a brand new restaurant in Jupiter that fuses Japanese and Korean influences into Latin cuisine to create authentic, fresh food.
Taco Maki did a soft opening in early January 2026, taking the place of the former “The Taco Shack.”
Taco Maki is open until 2 AM Monday to Saturday; they’re often serving late-night crowds with a DJ on Friday night. They also have brunch specials on Saturdays and Sundays. The restaurant is owned and operated by Michelle Maki. She uses her culinary skills to create a new menu every day.
Maki specializes in signature tacos, bowls and appetizers.
“I think that our birria [taco] is number one in the county,” Maki said.
Birria is a savory meat stew traditionally made from goat, beef or lamb and a variety of spices.
Asian-Mexican fusion is experiencing rapid growth, gaining most of its momentum in diverse cities such as Los Angeles. Both cuisines use a variety of spicy, flavorful ingredients that creates a natural pairing.
“I would say the execution is Latin for sure… it’s Mexican street style execution, but the flavor profile is 100% Asian,” Maki said.
Upon arriving at Taco Maki, we were greeted by an inviting atmosphere. Although the staff was friendly, it was slow throughout our dining experience, despite the restaurant being relatively empty.
We ordered a starter of salsa, queso and guacamole with tortilla and taro chips, which ended up being very pricey. Along with being expensive, the amount of chips that were provided was lacking;, our server was kind enough to give us a free refill.
For my entree, I ordered the taco Blanco and birria taco. The taco blanco came with ground beef, lettuce, tomato, mixed cheese, sour cream and a spicy aioli. The birria taco consisted of a braised sirloin, sauteed onions, charred pickled shishito peppers and mozzarella cheese.
The beef, not just for me but as well as the other people I was with wass very greasy.
Overall, Taco Maki offers an exciting experience and good food, with appetizers ranging from $15 to$20 and entrees from $25 to$30.
“If you’re enjoying the patio, during the day it’s great. And at night, it’s amazing here with the neon lights and bumping music,” Maki said.
