CELEBRATE LITERACY WEEK FLORIDA! CONGRATULATIONS BLAINE BAXTER! Blaine won an Honorable Mention Award in the Poetry & Spoken Word category in the 2021 Ocean Awareness Contest, a global competition sponsored by Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs that engage youth in creatively raising awareness of environmental issues impacting our blue planet. Blaine, who was selected from nearly 6,000 participants from around the world, received a cash award and is featured in Bow Seat’s international ocean advocacy Gallery. STUDENTS you can join Blaine in inspiring protection of our natural world by participating in the 2022 Ocean Awareness Contest open now through June 13, 2022. The 11th annual Ocean Awareness Contest, “The Funny Thing About Climate Change,” invites students ages 11-18 to create innovative pieces that raise awareness of the climate crisis through new approaches like humor, satire, or positivity. Students can work as individuals or as a group/class/club. Submissions accepted in visual art, poetry and spoken word, creative writing, performing arts (music and dance), film, and multimedia. Hundreds of cash awards are available, ranging from $50 to $1,500. The We All Rise Prize ($750) will recognize Black, Indigenous, and Latine participants whose entries demonstrate notable artistic achievement in their chosen category. Bow Seat offers $750 Educator Innovation Awards to teachers who use the 2022 Ocean Awareness Contest as a teaching tool in physical or virtual classrooms. SENIORS! If you have not yet been measured for your graduation cap and gown, listen up!  Herff-Jones will be on campus on Wednesday, February 2nd at lunch to take your cap and gown measurements. They will be set up in the cafeteria during both lunches for your orders.

MEET THE SCIENTIST Christopher J. Hickey, Ph.D., Palm Beach Atlantic University, “It takes a village to raise a tumor” Lecture will be held Wed., Feb 2 from 7-9 pm at the auditorium of Jupiter High School.  This is part of our Series, which promotes and facilitates the pursuit of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and encourages communication between scientists and residents of the communities in which they live and work. All lectures are free and open to the public. All students are encouraged to participate!

ATTENTION ALL JHS STUDENTS There will be a World Ethics Club meeting today at 2:50 pm in Miss Ellis’ Room 4-118. This week’s meeting topic will be on “Historic Statue Removal”. All students are welcome to join the meeting and discussion. 

INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY Eighty years since the Holocaust began, violent antisemitism remains a threat—as we witnessed at a Texas synagogue this month. The lessons of this history have never been more relevant and will be the focus of this solemn event marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day—designated by the United Nations to be January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. On this solemn day—and every day—we can honor the memory of victims and survivors by learning from Holocaust history. BEST BUDDIES will meet during lunch on Thursday, January 27 in Coach D’s room, 4-117.  Hope to see everyone there. Also, Best Buddies is scheduled to have our yearbook photo taken on Tuesday, Feb 1st at 7:45 am in the gym.  Please wear your black Best Buddies shirt.  If you need one, please stop by room 7-110 before school to pick one up.

COPS TEENS TALK is back and approved for in-person meetings. Please come to the next Talk on Tuesday, February 8th from 3:15 pm-4:15 pm at the Jupiter Police Department Community Room.

CLASS OF 2025! Your class officers and class sponsors will be collecting dues and distributing your freshman t-shirts on Wednesdays during both lunches just outside of the cafeteria.  Our Google class code is k22jepg

BATTLE BALL TOURNAMENT On February 11th from 3:30-5:00 pm Dance Marathon and Key Club will be hosting our 2nd annual “Battle-ball” tournament.  To sign up, one player from each team will need to stop by Mr. Hammett’s Portable 1 to pick up the team entry form and rules. 

CLUB PICTURES FOR THE YEARBOOK will take place next week, Feb. 1 and 2, in the gym. Please reach out to your club sponsor for the day and time of your picture and for an official pass.

The Palm Beach County Property Appraiser’s Office will be awarding six $1,500 scholarships along with an opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship. To be eligible a student must be graduating from a public, private or homeschool within Palm Beach County, have a minimum of 3.0 unweighted GPA, and plan to attend an accredited higher-education institution (college or junior college).

WARRIOR DANCE TEAM FUNDRAISER The team is selling dominos “slice the price” cards to raise money for upcoming competitions. The cards are $15 and allow you to get “Buy one get one” large pizzas for all of 2022! For example, You could buy 5 large pizzas and get 5 free with this card! GIRLS BEACH VOLLEYBALL (every day next week) All interested MUST plan to attend the pre-tryout meeting on February 2 in Mrs. Preston’s room (DECA), 4-106. ATTENTION CLASS OF 2023 If you applied for the Social Studies Honor Society last term, there is a list of those that qualified at room 6-208. Please note that if your student number is on this list, you must CONFIRM your membership by attending a MANDATORY meeting either Tuesday, Feb. 1st during A lunch or Thursday, Feb. 3rd during B lunch. Both meetings will be held in room 6-208. Please note, if you do NOT attend one of these meetings, you will not be admitted to the SSHS. Any questions, please see Mrs. Hanssen in room 6-208 before school, during lunch, or in between classes.

PALM BEACH STATE COLLEGE FIELD TRIP If you are signed up to attend the field trip to Palm Beach State College on February 18th, please remember to turn in your permission slips to Mrs. Nunez in Room 4-107 before Monday, January 31st.  If your paperwork is not submitted on or before this date you will not be able to attend–no exceptions.

TEENS HELPING HOSPICE Old and new members are welcome!  Our first meeting is today, January 26, at 2:45 pm in Portable 10.  There will be a grief camp this year so teens helping hospice camp helpers are needed.  Come to Portable 10 for all the details.  See you there!

JOIN THE ONLY TEAM on campus that gives you 15 choices of events to compete in! The track and field season starts Monday, Jan. 31st at 3 pm on the track. Athletic packets must be completed and turned in by Jan 31st to Coach Jefferson in P20.
