The 2024 election has been a historic election for America. Vice President Kamala Harris, taking the place of Joe Biden in July, has lost to Former President Donald Trump. New president- elect Trump won the 2024 presidential election by both the electoral vote and the popular vote; beating Harris 295-226 as reported by AP News.
Trump won all 7 battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. During the 2020 election, these states were blue but flipped to red for this election.
Trump also won the popular vote, which he lost in both the 2016 and the 2020 election. He is the first Republican to win the popular vote since 2004. Harris earned a total of 69,138,190 votes while Trump earned 73,479,329 votes.
The day following the election, Harris conceded the win.
“A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results,” Harris said in her speech following the outcome of the election.
Harris promised a peaceful transfer of power and offered a congratulations to president-elect Donald Trump.
Biden spoke on the matter Nov. 7, congratulating Trump on his win and also promising a peaceful transition for the new president.
Trump, confident in his ability, accepts the results and promises to “fix America.”
“We’re going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders. We’re going to fix everything about our country, and we’ve made history for a reason tonight. And the reason is going to be just that. We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible,” Trump said in his acceptance speech.
Donald Trump will be sworn into the White House Jan 20. 2025.
As for Florida, there were 6 amendments on the ballot:
- Amendment 1: Require Partisan Elections for school boards: No
- Amendment 2: Create a constitutional right to hunt and fish: Yes
- Amendment 3: Legalize Recreational Marijuana: No
- Amendment 4: Creates a constitutional right to abortion: No
- Amendment 5: Adjusts a home property tax exemption for inflation: Yes
- Amendment 6: Repeals public financing for political campaigns: No
The only two that were voted yes were to create a constitutional right to hunt and fish and adjust a home property tax for exemption for inflation. These amendments had to reach a 60 percent majority.
America is split because of this election and many are ready to give up and are upset by the outcome. Biden, in his address to the nation, gave optimism.
“Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable. We all get knocked down. But the measure of our character, as my dad would say, is how quickly we get back up,” Biden said in his address to the nation.
