Chasing the sun this spring break

chasing+the+sun

Spring break runs from March 21 to March 30 for Palm Beach County students and teachers. With a week off of school, hop in the car with friends and family members and “road trip” between the east and west coast, using the sun as your guide.

Sunrise: Where to Start

Begin your journey by watching the sunrise at the Jupiter Inlet. The Inlet offers a scenic walkway and lots of seating for the perfect view of the sunrise. It’s also the ideal place to take pictures and watch the boats come in and out of the Atlantic Ocean.

Where to stop on your way to the west coast

Loxahatchee

On your way to catch the sunset, make a stop at Lion Country Safari to visit the animals and wildlife. Enjoy an hour car ride around the grounds, discovering around 1,000 animals on over 600 acres of land. An audio disc will be provided for your group to help you identify what animal is which and the history behind the species. You can also rent a cabana for the day, have a dip in the pool and stroll the rest of the park during the day. If you’re starting to get hungry, the park offers a variety of restaurants, like their African-themed cafeteria located in Safari World.

Lake Okeechobee

In the mood for an air boat ride or a quick fishing trip? Lake Okeechobee is the second largest freshwater lake in the U.S. Fishing tours are available to vacationers, and it is highly recommended to take the Sugarland Express Tour, a tour of a farm mill while you get to enjoy snacking on some fresh sugarcane along with a three-hour boat tour of Lake Okeechobee’s historical sites.

Now to the fun stuff. Feeling adventurous? Want to grab your group of friends and try a once in a lifetime experience? Skydive Spaceland Florida is the perfect place for this. They provide mini camps for pre-sky diving training to know what to expect, making it more understanding for the fliers.

Bonita Springs

Bonita Springs is the home of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida Nature Center between Fort Myers and Naples. Start your day off by shopping at the Flamingo Island Flea Market, and enjoy purchasing discounted souvenirs as reminders of your chasing-the-sun pit stops.

By this time, you’re probably getting hungry. Grab a bite to eat at Bonita Spring’s most popular restaurant, C Level Bistro & Wine Bar, which is rated third out of 157 local restaurants. Less than a mile away from the restaurant is the Tropic Escape Room, the perfect way to challenge your, and your friends’, thinking skills in less than an hour.

Sunset: Where to End

Sanibel and Captiva Island

As you approach your final destination, you and your friends will be amazed by the spectacular view and calming water surrounding you on every side. Once you arrive, you’re never going to want to leave, so don’t. Book a night at South Seas Island Resort in Captiva. It has a variety of activities and attractions for people of all ages to explore. Spend your day jet skiing, parasailing or even sunbathing on the beach. Enjoy the pool and poolside activities, as well as water slides and arcade rooms. The resort holds a never-ending list of things for you and your friends to enjoy. To end your trip, enjoy a tasty dinner from the resort at Harbourside Bar and Grill on the waterfront, while watching the sun go down to complete your chasing-the-sun adventure.
